Broadfields Maze Worcester

Situated on the outskirts of Worcester in Powick is the Broadfield Maze. A fun family day out organised by a farming family on their farm.  I spent a very enjoyable morning with my two children, my sister and my niece and nephew (all 4 children under 5) exploring the creatively designed "junk monster" maize maze.  The children thought it was a great adventure finding their way through the maize and we started off letting them take turns to choose in which direction we should head next - this resulted in us getting completely lost with-in about five minutes of setting off. Luckily we had paid a pound on entry to buy a sealed envelope with directions should we need them, well we needed them! My sister opened the envelope very early on and between us we navigated our way around to find 6 of the 10 checkpoints. At each of the checkpoints was an ink stamp to mark our cards with and the idea was to collect all 10 stamps to enter a competition. The children all really enjoyed this part of their adventure and shouted in delight when we found the checkpoints. If it hadn't been for their tired little legs and their hungry little tummies I'm sure we would have completed our collection of stamps but as it was we had to navigate our way to the exit point and leave defeated. Once safely back to the courtyard we were able to buy refreshments for the children and ourselves and then sit and relax while the children entertained themselves with the numerous activities that the family had laid on to keep them busy. They played in a sandpit, threw balls through hoops and played in a mini maze of hay bales. The whole experience was refreshingly wholesome & unspoilt by commercialism it certainly was a fun day out and I can only congratulate them on their unique approach to farming diversification.

The maize is only open until September 6th, so if you are looking for somewhere to take the children during the last weeks of the summer holiday then look no further.

I look forward to taking the children again next year to see what design they painstakingly shape out of the maize for our enjoyment and next time it won't defeat me, I will be armed with a rucksack full of drinks and snacks for the children and will probably cheat by opening the sealed envelope straight away!
