Worcester City Council is promising to stage an impressive community event to celebrate the Olympic Torch coming to the City which will show off the very best of Worcester. It will be an ideal chance to promote the City of Worcester as a Top tourist destination and as Simon Geraghty; Leader of Worcester City Council says "It will undoubtedly help to boost the local visitor economy". There will be a lot of planning and preparation that will need to go into organizing of this once in a lifetime spectacular event in Worcester. Will the new Worcester Arena be complete in time for the celebrations? Surely this would be an ideal chance to show off the new 1,500 seated sports arena that will become an important sporting venue for the City of Worcester. Will the Worcestershire County Cricket Club with its stunning backdrop of Worcester Cathedral take part in the proceedings? Will the flame get taken to the Sixways stadium on the outskirts of Worcester?
Other questions include who will be given the honor of being a torch bearer in Worcester?
Before the Olympic torch makes its way to Worcester they will be celebrating the Olympics in Cheltenham. The exact route the relay will take between Cheltenham and Worcester has yet to be released but it is possible that the route could maybe include Tewkesbury, Evesham and Pershore.
When the Olympic flame relay moves on from Worcester it will be making its way to Cardiff. Travelling through the Worcestershire countryside the relay may well make its way to Malvern and across the Malvern Hills and on into Wales possibly taking a route through Newport for some Newport Olympic celebrations before reaching Cardiff in the evening on 25th May.
